Meeting Locations: IMAST and Annual Meeting

Lawrence G. Lenke, MD
Long Range Planning Committee Chair

The Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) has been busy the past six months solidifying two additional locations for upcoming International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques (IMAST) meetings. The Past Chair of this Committee, Past-President Richard E. McCarthy, MD, along with Ms. Tressa Goulding, CAE, CMP, spent a great deal of time in Spain visiting multiple outstanding venues in order to determine the location for the 2014 IMAST meeting, ultimately recommending Valencia as the destination. Also, in August of this year, Meetings Director Megan Kelley and I toured two potential cities in Canada for hosting the 2013 IMAST meeting, ultimately recommending Vancouver. I am pleased to report that both of these sites were unanimously approved by the LRPC and subsequently the Board of Directors. The LRPC is confident these two locations will provide outstanding venues for these future IMAST meetings.

Since the locations for the Annual Meeting are decided until our 50th Anniversary meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA in 2015, the committee this coming year will focus on site selection for the 2015 IMAST meeting, thus "catching up" to have all upcoming Annual Meeting and IMAST meetings selected through 2015. We encourage members to nominate cities for consideration to be a host for the 2015 IMAST meeting. You can do this by contacting the SRS office or by visiting our website for an application form. I would like to thank all committee members and especially Ms. Goulding and Ms. Kelley for all of their expertise regarding these important decisions on determining the location of the SRS "Crown Jewel" meetings.
