Website Updates

Anthony S. Rinella, MD
  • PDF Generator/Patient Video Project: The first animation of a new custom-made video series entitled “Correction of Thoracic Scoliosis with Posterior Spinal Instrumentation” is now complete and currently being reviewed by the Patient Education Committee.  The videos are oriented toward patient education.  As they are approved in their final form, they will be added initially to the Patients & Family section. Our ultimate goal is to offer members the ability to link their websites to the videos. Colorful PDF summaries in multiple languages with both the SRS logo and member name/practice information will be available for patient education folders.
  • Website Translation: Munish Gupta is now chair of the newly formed Translation Committee. We will work closely with Dr. Gupta to translate initially the homepage and Patients & Family sections, followed later by the rest of the site.
  • Facebook: The SRS Facebook page continues to be a rapidly growing web presence, largely due to the diligent efforts of Cydni Schaeffler and Courtney Kissinger and the SRS office staff who keep the information current and eye-catching. The number of Facebook “friends” continues to grow weekly, and more than doubled to 1300+ in the past year. In collaboration with Lori Karol of Public Relations, we try to link photos to specific surgeons in order to broaden our exposure. Occasionally, a question will be posted to our SRS Facebook Wall, and Cydni will contact someone to prepare a reply.
  • Homepage/Banner Update: We added our mission and a link to the REO Fund to the banner in a prominent position. These links are available on all web pages.  We added a “Worldwide Conferences” link to the bottom of the right homepage column.  Katy Kujala-Korpela also added a number of new patient stories to the banner.
  • E-Text Integration Project: We plan to add two topics from E-Text (“Adolescent Scoliosis” and “Adult Scoliosis”) to the Patient & Family section to satisfy the desires of families seeking more in-depth analyses of these topics. We will track the popularity of these pages to assess whether further additions will be beneficial in the future. The added benefit is that the content will be more available to search engines since the current E-Text environment is very secure. We will also work together with the E-Text Committee on collaborative videos.
  • Photo Journal for SRS Travelling Fellows: We are working with Lawrence Haber, MD (Chair, Awards & Scholarship Committee) and Matthew Oetgen, MD to make an online photo journal of the SRS Travelling Fellows stories featured on a world-wide map.
  • Continued Medical Education (CME) Project: We are working with Frank Schwab, MD to explore options surrounding future web-based CME opportunities.
  • A subcommittee headed by Michael Roh, MD reviewed the current content and links on the website identifying and correcting a number of “dead” links.
