Time Zone

Lyon is in the Central European Time Zone, which is one (1) hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.


Lyon is a mix between an oceanic and humid subtropical climate which leads to cooler winters and warm summers with rain year round. The summer months in Lyon are warm with temperatures averaging around 21.3 °C (70.3 °F).  


Europe operates on 220 volts, compared to the standard 120 volts in the United States. 


In Lyon, 15% VAT (includes service fee) is included in every bill but additional small tips are appreciated for exceptionally good service.


Most flights arrive at Saint-Exupéry Airport (LYS) in Lyon through European hubs such as Paris, London and Frankfurt. The airport is located 25 kilometers and approximately 30 minutes east of the city and can be reached by taxi, tram and bus. 

Traveling to France

Some travelers are required to obtain a visa from the French Government before traveling to France. For more information, visit United States citizens are not required to obtain a visa and only need a valid passport to travel to France.
