Host Desc: The Norton Leatherman Spine Center is a tertiary facility with eight fellowship-trained spine surgeons who manage all types of spine pathology, including adult and pediatric deformity. All the surgeons are active in the SRS, including SRS Education Council Chair Elect John Dimar, MD, SRS Immediate Past-President Steven Glassman, MD, and SRS Evidence Based Medicine Committee member Trey Crawford, MD. The practice sees 14,000 patients a year and performs 1500 cases a year. Support available to conduct research is substantial, with a spine fellowship trained clinical research director (Leah Carreon, MD), a senior research coordinator who was a OR spine manager and two research assistants who are working on their Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. The research fellow can also choose participate in classes at the University of Louisville to learn about research methods or basic statistical concepts.

Research Opportunities: Current research opportunities and projects include evaluating the role of balance and proprioception in the outcomes following surgical correction of adult spine deformity, evaluating the outcomes and costs associated with the non-operative treatment of adult spinal deformity, studying the determinants of the development in proximal junctional kyphosis in patients following surgical correction of adult spine deformity.
